Despite the challenges caused by the pandemic, 2020 was another busy year for Ropes & Gray in London. As the UK’s preeminent private capital law firm, we continued to help our international client base complete deals across the private capital markets, as well as advising some of the world’s biggest public companies on their most challenging issues.

We have our eyes wide open as to the reason for our success: the efforts of all our talented people working together. We’ve always placed a premium on staying connected, but this took on special resonance during the period of extended remote working. From the off, we adopted an explicit ‘people first’ approach, seeking and prioritising multiple ways to support our people while operating virtually.

We’re pleased that we seem to have hit the right notes, with our people having ranked us among the very top UK law firms with the most satisfied staff: we have recently learned we achieved joint second in the RollOnFriday Law Firm of the Year 2021 survey, which measures staff satisfaction levels in law firms.

As a firm we genuinely value individualism, we work well as a team and, above all, we combine professionalism with personality. And it’s not just us saying this.

We conducted a client survey last year, and received some really great client feedback, with our clients telling us they liked our diversity – last year Law.com ranked us as having the highest proportion of female equity partners than any firm in London, and one of the very best when diversity, pro bono and revenue per lawyer was taken into account – our innovative solutions to their problems and the strong sense of teamwork they felt when working with us.

It’s a winning combination that we’ll be sticking with as we continue to support our clients in 2021.
